An interview with Tim of Modern Hearts Break Faster

Modern Hearts Break Faster Modern Hearts Break Faster is a band from Connecticut. The unsigned band’s four members are, Tim Capezzone on vocals and guitar, Ryan Zipp on drums, Frank DeAngelo on bass and also vocals, and Nick Abraham on guitar and vocals.

Tim agreed to answer some questions for Double Dance.

First off, how did the band get started?

“I had a couple of demos I was working on (songs that became 1+1=3, Bulletproof Lies, Hyde Park SMS) and I was showing them to friends. Zippi and Frank both had been in Grover Dill a few years ago and wanted to get another project started, more or less, and we just started working together. After we recorded we tried out a few guitarists and Nick blew us away. The kid is a machine.”

How did the band come up with the name Modern Hearts Break Faster?

“It was sort of a combination of things. Frank had some ideas, and I had a dream I was approving merch designs with this long name involving ‘hearts breaking faster’… some really ridiculous name. In the next day or two Zippi put Frank’s idea together with mine. To be honest, we asked some girls we were friends with if they liked it and they did. That was enough for the three of us.”

How would you describe the band’s music?

“We’re a pop band at heart. We all love the whole pop/punk thing and like 80s arena rock, but my iPod literally has the corniest things on it. I would much rather listen to Kelly Clarkson than NoFX. Did I just lose “cred”? Who cares. Oh, and we’re also never going to try to do that whole hardcore/pop/punk hyrbid thing that some bands are doing. Fuck that noise.”

Where would you like to see the band in a few years?

“I would like to see the band supporting itself and its members. We’re about to record again and this batch of songs is by far the most marketable and catchy stuff I have ever written. It would be nice to have the media recognize us, but this business is all about luck. You bust your ass to be ready to go when you get that one shot, and most times it never comes. We’ll see what happens.”

What made you decide to offer a free download of the “The Things She Says” EP?

“We wanted more people to hear it. Plain and simple.”

Any bands you’d really love to tour with?

“Sure. Van Halen in ’86.”

and last but not least, What is your favorite animal? :)

“This one’s easy. I love puppies. :)

As always, thanks to Tim for the interview. Go listen to Modern Hearts Break Faster. Now. :)
