It’s Like Love is a 5 piece band from Glendale, Arizona. Jeremy Rondeu is the band’s vocalist and pianist, Geoff Parker plays keyboards and guitar, Vince Perez plays the guitar, Ryan Ice plays the bass, and Nick Cox is the drummer.
The band is currently signed to Tragic Hero Records and it just so happens that Geoff was willing to answer some questions for Double Dance!
How did It’s Like Love get started?
It’s Like Love started a loooong time ago with some regular guys that came together with similar musical tastes, but wanted to create something new with their combined passion. Many members came and went, but about a year ago we finally found our permanent lineup, and playing the music we all want to play.
Where did the band’s name come from?
Literally, our name came from
this hot sauce ad
Haha, you should feel lucky because that’s sort of privileged information!
Our influences come from our very different musical backgrounds.
What are some of It’s Like Love’s major influences?
We listen to everything from The Beatles and Queen to contemporary pop-rock bands like Boys Like Girls and Panic at the Disco.
This past year the band released a full length album, “You’re Too Sweet For Rock and Roll”, how long did it take to record the album?
We recorded our album last summer at Marigolds and Monsters studios with Matt Malpass in Atlanta, GA. We were there for about 6 weeks, working in the studio usually 6 days a week. Most of the songs were written beforehand and just needed polishing, but others were conceived while we were working there.
How did you guys get signed to Tragic Hero Records?
Our band has been in touch with literally every label out there. It wasn’t until Tragic Hero Records contacted us that we found someone with the same vision as us, who wasn’t looking to take advantage of us, and could help us accomplish our goals. It was a natural fit to work with them.
Who writes the songs?
In general, we all write the songs. However, it usually starts with someone coming up with a lyric or a riff on their own, and then we flesh it out in a full band practice. Songs that write themselves are always the best because they came to exist so naturally. On the other hand, some of the songs were almost completely written by Jeremy (vocals, piano) for example, although we all put our personal touches on them before the songs were “complete.”
What band would you love to tour with?
I’d love to tour with The Beatles, but that will never happen (tear). I think we would have a lot of fun with bands like Panic at the Disco, Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, and uhhh Taylor Swift
What is the band up to right now?
Currently, we’re just practicing and playing shows here and there around AZ. We just put up a cover of a Jackson 5 song called “ABC” on our myspace, so that’s the most recent music we’ve done. We have a show coming up next week, but you should always check our Myspace page for everything we’re doing, it’s always updated as soon as new things happen.
As for the future, no one really knows! We’re eager to get this record on the road, but times are kind of tough for sort of smaller bands like us right now with this economy affecting our business as well. Until then, we’re pushing ourselves online and just having fun with shows around AZ.
What’s your favorite animal?
Everyone knows that the black bear is best. Plus, bears beats Battlestar Gallactica.
Well, here’s the usual thanks to whoever the interview was with… JUST KIDDING, but a huge thanks to Geoff who took the time to answer some questions. You can buy the band’s full length, “You’re Too Sweet For Rock and Roll” on iTunes or
here.
And for those silly people who have no idea what “bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica” is all about… you should really watch The Office!
(this article didn’t really show up the way I had it… so its kinda formatted weirdish…)
