Jupiter One’s “Sunshower”

Jupiter One's "Sunshower"I’ve tried number of times to write this review, but every time I get started my opinion changes on it. Do I like it? Do I only like certain parts. I may be a little on the fence here, because I’m honestly not the biggest fan of laid back music. I may try and make this quick. This is my review on Jupiter One‘s “Sunshower”, set to release on September 15th from Cordless Records.

So as I hit play in iTunes, and the sounds slowly started to creep out through the speakers and in to my ear holes, I was embraced by an image in my head; it’s as though I was sitting on a grassy hill on a warm summer morning, just waiting, watching the sun rise up from below the horizon, and finally in to the now-lit bright blue sky.

Yup, I went there.

This may not be my taste in music, but I certainly learned to like it after a song or two. I’d like to start with the title of the album, “Sunshower”. In general this entire album fits the whole Sunshower aspect; a bright and sunny day while the rain still drops. Simply beautiful. And in another sense, each song gives it’s own meaning to a sunshower, because they all seem so happy and bright, with that harmonic “tap-tap”-like beat, almost like rain hitting the roof. Now I’m just getting carried away in thought.

I like the fact that they’re pretty much staying in the range of their own genre, and not trying to drastically change their sound like many bands attempt for upcoming records. I might add that throughout, I tend to hear super-flat drums and sometimes it bugs me (being a drummer myself), but other times I find that the drums and the synth make some sort of wicked combination that entrances me.

Overall, a great album. It seems like the band put a lot of effort in to it, and didn’t just throw it all together and slap a label on it. But once again, not exactly my kind of music, and for that…

Rating: ★★★¼☆
