Sweet Hollow Drive Sweet Hollow Drive is a 4 member band from Long Island, New York. The band consists of lead vocalist and bassist Alex Dover, Danny Ensanian on drums, and Rob Nolan and Mikey Molloy, both on guitar.

Rob answered some questions with Danny for me.

What’s the story behind the band’s name?

“where we’re from (long island) theres this “haunted road” called Sweet Hollow Road, if you look it up on the internet you’ll find a few stories like Mary’s Grave or the bus of children blah blah, its all a bit silly. i wasnt in the band at the time but im told its meaning is from all the nights they spent hanging out on that road. though mikey likes to make up a new story every time, its a bit silly to watch.”

How did you guys become a band?

“we were all a part of a moderately popular ska band from long island. after a while… alex, mike, and danny decided to start jamming and sweet hollow drive was formed (under the name Awesome Josh… named after their buddy … his name was josh! haha) after a few months they changed the name to Sweet Hollow Drive and the line up changed a little but the three core members stayed. after the ska band (Three Piece Suit) disbanded they offered me the position as a second guitarist and we’ve been making music like this for 2 years.”

What bands would be included the lineup of your dream concert?

“hmm good question! danny and i would like to see it this way.

though believe me we’d love to set up an all day festival haha

:-P

Who writes the songs in the band?

“the way we write usually is one guy has an idea, a foundation. then we play that one part overandoverandoverandoverandover until we realize that we need a new part for the song. we continue to add stuff, take stuff away, shine stuff up, and do our best to try and stay original about it.”

when it comes to lyrics, alex usually writes those but we throw in an idea or two and change things as a whole. we’re usually happy with the final product afterward. ohh sheesh i hope that wasnt too confusing! haha

Are there any particular bands that Sweet Hollow Drive are majorly influenced by?

“hmm i think we all have our own influences. sure there are bands that we can easily relate to, in fact theres a lot of people that think alex sounds like the singer from Mae! but i tend to think that we’re influenced by all music, new and old, we take a little bit in from each and we develop our own style that is reminiscent of our favorite older artists yet still contemporary and original enough to compete with the new bands out there.”

According to your Myspace, the band is currently unsigned, if you were able to choose what label you were signed to, would you go for a major complany, or more of an indie one?

“everyone dreams of being big and famous, butĀ  an indie label would be more nurturing to our needs as a growing artist/band. not saying we’ll take the first thing that comesĀ  our way but when the time comes for that we’re certainly going to weigh out our options and give it all some serious head bashing thought… i have ice and aspirin ready for that day”

If you could take any one band on tour with you, who would it be?

“on our first tour, we met this band nemes which we happened to play like… 4 shows with. it was so amazing and we bonded so well that we brought them down for some shows on long island and booked 9 days in massachusetts playing shows with them all over! im proud enough to say that we’re great band friends and we would LOOOOOVE to take them anywhere with us.”

What’s up next for the band?

“we just wrote 4 brand new super’DEE’duper songs. we’re really excited about them and we’re looking to record them on an EP (in case youre reading and wondering… EP stands for Extended Play… i just googled it :-X) mainly because we want to give the fans and friends something to listen to so they know that we’re still alive and well. touring is always the idea, we’re gonna also start playing more in the NYC area.”

If you were stranded on a desert island, but you could have one celebrity with you, who would you choose?

“Tom Hanks, he’ll know what to do. it might take us a few years and a couple of weird scenes with a volley ball, but we’ll get home … and then update our myspace saying we’re alive
