Arizona band, The Constellation Branch has a unique sound of their own to go along with their unique band name. The four member band consists of lead singer Jordan Cruz on guitars, piano, and keys, Bryce Hill on guitar, keys, and programming, Aaron Motley on bass, and Stephen O’Sicky as the drummer and percussionist.
After contacting the band via their Myspace, I was able to do an interview with Bryce over AIM. So read on! (I’m gonna be lame and post almost the entire conversation…
)
if it’s cool then we could get started
“Sure.”
alright, so first off, How did the band get started?
“We started back in 2006. My roommate introduced Jordan and I and we jammed a bit and wrote a few songs, we ended up recording those with some friends and then recruited Steve on drums and finally Aaron on bass back in July of 2007″
So how did you guys come up with the name The Constellation Branch? It’s such a unique name
“hah, thanks…I wish I could make up some deeply philosophical story, but the name is really just a combination of names that we were throwing around at the time….We wanted the name to be something organic and for some reason, names that had something to do with space kept coming up”
well hey that’s still cool!
“thanks, I like the name, even if it is void of meaning…”
I downloaded your full length a while back, what made you guys decide to put it up as a free download?
“oh is that still up? HAH jk…”
I’m not sure if it is haha I just remember seeing it featured on AbsolutePunk one day
“yeah, we submitted it to the free music friday thing, We just want to get our music to as many people as we can. We’re not as worried about making money from our cd…and since we can’t tour all over the US (yet) giving our music to people who would actually appreciate was the next best thing”
that’s cool, I like when bands do that, are there any bands that you would love to tour with?
“hah, well I think Radiohead would be our collective answer…But I don’t foresee that happening”
you never know! What are some of the bands major influences?
“Well Radiohead, Sunny Day Real Estate, mewithoutYou, At the Drive-In, Fugazi, Sigur Ros, Bjork…
I could go on, We’re all really into Jeff Buckley right now as well”
nice, so what is the band up to currently?
“We’re trying to tour as much as our job allows. We were in Cali last week and Texas and NM back in June
We’re also planning on heading up the coast to Seattle in January”
can we expect any new music from the band in the near future? or are you guys taking a break from writing/recording?
“Ideally, we would like to record a bit more in early 2010…We have a few new songs we’ve been working on we just aren’t sure the format that we want to release them, EP, Vinyl, Full Length, etc
Jordan has a ton of new material though. I don’t think we could take a break from writing, ya know?”
it’s always good to have some more stuff! so how about some random questions now?
“k”
soooo favorite color?
“asphalt grey, hah, how is that for boring”
it sounds less boring when you add the asphalt part haha makes it more descriptive, what animal would you like to have as a pet that wouldnt normally be considered a pet?
“riiight
a polar bear”
oh man polar bears are sweet
well is there anything else you’d like to add?
“agreed
uh, keep your eyes open for more tour dates…we are going to be hitting up the midwest in March”
sweet! well thank you very much
“you’re welcome, thanks for wanting to interview us”
Again, a big thanks to Bryce for letting me interview him.
