Shutup and Dance

Wanna hear the best UNSIGNED band out there right now? Well I’m going to tell you anyway! Ready? Shutup and Dance! This powerpop/punk band calls Orlando, Florida home. When not spending time in the sun this six piece crew is found rocking Florida to the max. Their sound is up-beat with strong guitar progressions and catchy keyboard arrangements. Having two vocalists really sets this band apart. Shauna (lead vox) and Greg (guitar/vox) play off of each other with fearless lyrics to create an intriguing sound. First check out their song “Let this be a Lesson”. This track will get stuck in your head and you will be frequently visiting their myspace page to get your fix. “Not Looking for Love” is a track that again reveals powerful guitar progressions that make you want to ROCK. Shutup and Dance is currently unsigned…but not for long. Which ever label gets lucky enough to sign them knows what good music is.

I recently interviewed Greg from Shutup and Dance! He was recovering from getting a tooth pulled :( Check out how they got their name and what the story is behind their track, Let this Be a Lesson!

Greg

How did you guys come up with the name Shutup and Dance?

“We got our name from The movie Wayne’s World, at the end of the movie, Aerosmith shows up and plays a song called “Shut Up and Dance”. You gotta watch it to get the full effect though. We thought we’d be different and spell it as Shutup and Dance. Makes us seem a little more unique than we really are :) … or it just makes it seem like we don’t know how to spell. However you want to take it.”

How long has Shutup and Dance been rockin’?

“Our Current line up has been around since October of 2008, with the exception of our drummer, Mike, who was recently added about a month or two ago.”

How do you describe Shutup and Dance’s sound?

“Our sound is often described as Dance/Pop/Rock but we are always writing and venturing out into different genre’s… we don’t limit ourselves in any way.”

What are the band’s influences?

“Our influences range anywhere from church hymns to Slipknot and everything in between. Most of us have been playing for many years and listen to all sorts of stuff, so to list them would take forever.”

If you could play a show with anyone, who would it be?

“I can only speak for myself on this one, but if I could play a show with anyone, it’d be Weezer.”

Living in Florida I’m sure you guys get to the beach, who gets the worst sunburn?

“I’m not sure who would get the worst sunburn… Shauna definitely gets the most sun out of all of us, however Chad is the whitest of us all and would probably burn the easiest.”

Lets hear the guilty pleasures?

“Personally, my current guilty pleasure is Taylor Swift.”

Everyone has to eat, what’s your favorite food?

“My favorite food is Won Ton Soup.”

Mario Kart vs. Donkey Kong.

“Mario Kart, all the way.”

What TV show did you watch as a young tot?

“As a kid, I watched a lot of Rescue 911.”

Who stole your concert V-card?

“I can’t quite remember my first concert, it must not have been very good.”

The song, Let this Be a Lesson is awesome! What’s the story behind it?

“Ah, the story behind “Let This Be A Lesson”….Well, I won’t give any names, but one of our band members’ parents are going through a divorce due to some infidelity. So yes, its about a specific situation. It was the very first song we wrote.”

How old is everyone in the band?

“Shauna is 27, (believe it or not) I (Greg) am 24, Chad is 24, Kyle is 21, Joey is 21, and Mike is the baby at 19.”
