Closure In Moscow's "First Temple"After a few brief hours of pumping myself up on my upcoming Warped Tour date I finally decided that I should probably put out a review. And what better to review than my current favorite album “First Temple” by Australian psychedelic rockers Closure In Moscow? And now, let’s get this straight; I say something is my ‘favorite’ a lot, but truly, honestly, CIM has it. They are the favorite.

Now I’m usually not too huge of a fan of this kind of progressive rock, and that’s why it took a few listens of the album for me to gradually like, and eventually favor over my other top albums. But once I could grasp the geniality of First Temple, it had me.

So, where does this leave us? Well, let’s start with the whole idea of the album; First Temple is Closure In Moscow’s debut album under Equal Vision Records since they moved from Taperjean Records in Australia. I can’t help but hear, throughout the album, the jumpy patterns of The Mars Volta; especially in the second track “Reindeer Age”. But nonetheless, the melodic and crunchy riffs paired up with the bouncy soulfulness of the percussion and the occasional acoustic bridges make this album something to definitely spend the money to get.

However, there is one thing that does bug about the album: the album artwork. I take in to serious account of the artwork of every album I listen to. Some artwork is creative, some, well, less creative. And I can’t say that I like this artwork too much; I enjoy the raised print and such, but all in all, it’s pretty bland. The bug; what?

To wrap things up, I’d have to say my favorite song on this entire album was “Deluge”.

My Rating: ★★★★★

Thanks to Equal Vision Records for the materials.
