An interview with Kevin of Let’s Get It!

Posted on 24 Apr 2010 at 9:42am

Let’s Get It are a crazy 5-member band. According to the biography on their Myspace, they have “a sound that ranges from pop to rock, glued together by the melodies of an R&B song and the lyrics of a rapper”. I’d say that sounds right.

Here’s the interview with Kevin, the drummer for Lets Get It:

Where did the name Let’s Get It come from?

The name stems from that inner most core feeling of going out and getting whatever you want in life with no barriers in your way. You go and get it. Let’s Get It. It also sounds fun to say.

Who all is in the band?

Joseph Gilford (Vocals)

Christopher Lairmore (Guitar/Keys)

Kevin Hammond (Drums)

Tyler Smyth (Guitar)

Taylor Foiles (Bass)

How did the band start?

Really weird story actually.  I used to have my personal alone space out in this field 10 miles outside of town. You know, just a place to go and think. Anywho, it was February 9, 2008 and I headed out to this personal spot as always just to clear my mind. As I approached the middle of the field I saw 4 other figures coming out of the woods at 4 various parts. At first I was thrown off like, damn these might be werewolves but as we all neared each other I could tell they weren’t werewolves. These were my friends who I have been friends with in other bands and grown up with. It was that night we raised our fists in the air and declared our war cry “Let’s Get It.”

What are some of Let’s Get It’s musical influences?

LeBron James, HeMan, John Dillinger

If you could tour with any band, dead, or alive, who would it be?

I would love to tour with the Beatles just so I could jam with them acoustically. A tour with Leonidus would be pretty brutal as well.

What one word or phrase would you use to describe the band’s sound?

Confident.

How did you guys end up getting a song (Do Not Disturb…) available on Rock Band 2?

Fearless Records is an absolutely incredible record label with vast resources and dabbles in black magic as well. I’m not sure which resources they used yet.

What is the band currently working on?

We are writing and rewriting and scrapping and discussing and writing more and more material for our debut full length album. I can promise you that what we have is unique and worth telling your friends about. Let’s Get It is getting even better.

What are some future plans for Let’s Get It?

Ideally world domination but we will be recording our full length soon and touring a lot more!!

Go give the band a listen and be sure to check them out at this year’s Bamboozle festival, but be warned, you might end up dancing!

Alesana’s latest, “The Emptiness”

Posted on 27 Jan 2010 at 3:23pm

I am here to tell you a story; a story that will torture your thoughts by day and poison your dreams by night,” the crude, ghostly voice states as violins screech amongst it, from the first track,  ”Curse Of The Virgin Canvas”, of 6-peice metal core outfit Alesana‘s latest album, The Emptiness. The 13-track comeback album from the group is a must hear album for any screamo fan, as it highlights what the group is capable of.

It’s difficult to imagine that it’s been over 2 years since Alesana’s last album, Where Myth Fades To Legend, and they’ve come back with the full power of a harsh screaming and a symphony of madness. But instead of coming up with an entirely new repertoire to feed in to our ears, the band has simply emphasized what they’re made of; high pitched scream-driven cries of love and death.

In comparison with their previous music, The Emptiness is edgier, with, at times, recordings of what sounds merely like the cries of someone dying in a empty room, but also more powerful, in that there is a lot of percussion-driven parts and a faded strings section in the background to tie it all up. I’m left, at various parts of the record, feeling like I’m at the final scene of a thriller movie, with the orchestra playing and a spine-chilling prose filling my head.

One  must digress, however, to the fact that the record seems to have a lot of mechanics behind it, a lot of studio edited cuts; which brings the questions as to what some of these songs might sound like live. As part of releasing a good, full-bodied record, I believe it’s necessary to have the ability to perform the exact same song that’s found of the album—and with all the added harmonic sounds and the spoken word, who’s to say that Alesana will be able to keep the same dynamics as they’ve laid out in this album, while performing them on stage?

Nevertheless, The Emptiness certainly delivers with the same style of crunchy metal core that they defined for themselves in their previous releases. My track of choice from this album is “Heavy Hangs the Albatross”; it’s one of the slower tracks on the album, and sort of offers a little bit of a breather for me before rushing in to “The Lover”.

Breathe Carolina’s “Hello Fascination”

Posted on 19 Aug 2009 at 4:11pm

See this review on I Am The Trend.

Today I went to my local HMV and searched for a good ten minutes before I finally went and asked someone if they had Breathe Carolina‘s new album “Hello Fascination” in stock, and, after another good ten minutes of them searching the computers and checking in the back storage, they didn’t have it in. They then tried to tell me that the album wasn’t even out yet. I now hate HMV with a passion. That’s my kvetch for the day.

So I went home and, reluctantly, cracked open a fresh iTunes gift card and bought the album online. This is my review of Breathe Carolina’s latest release “Hello Fascination”, dropped on AUGUST 18TH (eeerrghh) under Fearless Records.

The album, in general, started out fantastic for me and, after listening to it a few times over, got even better. The beginning of the first track, title track, and second single “Hello Fascination” gave me this odd Marilyn Manson-esque feeling, with it’s driving pulse, but that quickly went away. After seeing BC at the Vans Warped Tour this year and hearing some songs off of this album, I was pretty enthused to hear the whole thing.

It seems as though BC intentionally was trying to have a bit more aggressive album, as compared to the previous release “It’s Classy Not Classic”, and it certainly shows in songs like “I’m The Type Of Person To Take It Personal” and “I Have To Go Return Some Video Tapes”; but hey, I love it aggressive. A few of the songs, I might add, such as “Take Me To Infinity” give me this almost Latin feeling. But I think it’s just me.

Have you looked at their MySpace lately? One thing I’m most fascinated (HAHA GET IT?) with is the album art for this. They seem to have gone with some sort of rainbow river style artwork for this. It’s almost like paint splatters or something like it. But what I like is that they had the whole set on Warped set up with giant “B” and “C” paint splattered murals, and Sons of Nero managed to work their faces in to the MySpace design with rivers coming out their mouth and whatnot.

Great album. Great artwork. Loved it. Seriously. I have no complaints for this album.

Posted on 24 Apr 2009 at 7:32pm

OMG Super-awesome news guys and gals!

Our favorite duo electronica screamo band Breathe Carolina has officially signed over to Fearless Records! Yes, that’s right, they’ve dropped Rise Records and jumped on the Fearless bandwagon. About 3 hours ago , they tweeted it out to the world to see.

Hey Everyone,
We would like to welcome Breathe Carolina to the Fearless Records family! Look for the new album coming in September and check out their MySpace page for current and upcoming studio updates.
-Fearless Records

For those who don’t know, Breathe Carolina consists of two young lovely men named Kyle Evan and David Shmitt (as well as other people who play with) both from Denver, Colorado. Currently they have one album (and one EP, “Gossip”) out called “It’s Classy, Not Classic”. They’ve successfully made their way out in to the music scene, and, personally, I love ‘em on my iPod all the time.
